SIMPLICITY
Having grown up in Canada with a rather chaotic childhood, I have come to love simplicity. For me, simplicity equates to calmness. Spending a lot of my time outside, I found that when my world felt dark or grey, seeing a bright blue sky or emerald green grass dotted with pretty pink flowers always brought a smile to my face. It is this love for simplicity and bright saturated colours that inspire these paintings.
Starting with carefully measured line drawings bordered in ink, I use multiple layers of paint, mixing and blending the colours directly on the surface to create a luminous effect. The lines are then redrawn with ink to emphasize the simplified shapes and accentuate the colours.
